Mate Rimac does not sit still. The creator of one of the world’s fastest electric cars is also taking his company’s technology and putting it into his line of Greyp electric bikes, which are as fast as they are capable. In this short film, Rimac describes to APEX.one his vision for his cloud-connected electric bike.
The G12 line of bikes start at around $10,000, but you shouldn’t think of it as a bicycle. Nor should you think of it as a motorcycle. This new platform for Rimac’s technology uses the company’s battery management system, lightweight materials, and a custom motor to achieve a top speed of about 40 mph and a range up to 75 miles.
There’s a long history of bikemakers becoming carmakers, but Rimac is the rare automaker to go the other direction. Why?
“We formed a little team inside of the company to work on the bikes and when people would come to look at the cars they asked‘What are these bikes, guys?’ And when they tried them they started to order them,” Rimac explains.
Greyp is now its own company and has just launched the Greyp G6, which takes lessons learned from the development of the G12 and adds in more technology to augment the rider’s experience. For example, the connected bike includes a ‘Central Intelligence Module’ that works with the G6’s battery bike to adjust how much assistance the motor provides to map to your fitness goals.
